CASE STUDY
4WWL News Rebrand

Project Overview
For over 35 years, 4WWL has been New Orleans’ trusted source for local news and weather. This conceptual rebrand and redesign aims to modernize the station’s visual identity. By using updated brand assets and graphics, 4WWL’s news report will contain an improved viewer experience and overall impact to the channel’s weather coverages.

Role: Motion Graphic Designer
Services: Visual Identity, Logo Design, Motion Design, Design Systems
Duration: 6 weeks
Tools: Adobe After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator
Opportunity Statement
By introducing updated brand assets, modern graphics, stronger visual hierarchy, and more dynamic motion, the redesign will create a more engaging and modern news experience. This approach will strengthen 4WWL’s visual presence, improve the communication of weather information, and better connect the station with locals and viewers across broadcast and digital platforms.
The Solution
The rebrand will be refined to design a more professional visual experience by introducing greater depth beyond the simple flat design style. Interactive elements, transitions, and motion design systems will be incorporated to make the experience feel more up-to-date, consistent, and engaging. A stronger logo and visual hierarchy will also be established with intentional use of typography, spacing, and scale.
Weather Report Reel
Final Showcase of all Assets in Motion
This report reel showcases the application of the redesigned 4WWL visual identity through motion design and broadcast graphics. It demonstrates how the design system comes together across a range of visual assets, including logo animations, icons, transitions, lower thirds, information graphics, and more. Together, these elements create a cohesive and engaging visual experience designed for a news station like 4WWL.

Logo Redesign Overview
The redesigned 4WWL logo introduces a modern visual identity through updated brand colors and a simplified, modern look. The updated mark replaces “Louisiana” with “NOLA,” creating a stronger connection to the station’s New Orleans roots and local audience. The logo also includes a crescent moon mark, symbolizing both the station’s focus on weather and the iconic nickname of New Orleans, the “Crescent City.”

Visual Identity and Brand Assets

Lower-third Elements and Assets
I designed a series of lower-third shapes for 4WWL to present broadcast headlines, weather updates, and key information in a clear, cohesive, and visually engaging format.

Map Graphic Sytsems and Assets
I designed clear map illustration systems in Adobe Illustrator to communicate weather conditions and temperature data across coastal Louisiana in a clear, engaging, and visually consistent manner.

Project Reflection
What I learned
Through this project, I gained a deeper understanding of motion design within broadcast media and how visual systems can adapt to a fast-paced news environment. I strengthened my skills in data visualization, information design, and logo development while exploring how these elements work together across motion and static applications. I also learned to communicate my design decisions more effectively by clearly presenting the concepts, designs, and choices behind my process.
Challenges
-
One challenging aspect of this project was meeting all required project assets in a timely manner.
-
Another key challenge was maintaining consistency across all visual elements while ensuring the design systems translated seamlessly between static graphics and motion.
